Book & Publishing Trade Organizations

It is often helpful to join one of the various publishing trade associations. Most are fairly inexpensive and generally have newsletters or blogs which are reserved for members only. Some offer ongoing seminars, webinars and other educational tools. There are a variety of publications available to the Independent Publisher. The price as well as the format varies from publication to publication.

IBPA, the Independent Book Publishers Association

Mountains & Plains Booksellers Association (MPBA)

'We are a non-profit professional association of 160 locally-owned, “bricks and mortar” bookstores. The Association was begun almost 40 years ago in Denver and has grown to include booksellers in Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. While we are called a “booksellers” association, we have always taken an expansive view of that term, and our membership includes as many publishers, wholesalers, and sales reps as it does bookstores. Upper Midwest Booksellers Association
